Trans Tasman Challenge, Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland, January 2016.
A fantastic effort from our PCAAC athletes in the 40th Trans Tasman Athletics Event held in Auckland 17th Jan 2016.
It was a great day in terms of organisation, fun, participation, rivalry and the weather! Also Mt Smart actually looked really ‘smart’. The day started off at 7.30am with all the athletes signing in, followed by 8.30 ceremony: – march past, the Australian & NZ national anthems, Team song and the Haka. All very moving and amazing to see such young athletes representing their region.

Sam Berry, Joe Berman, & Maddie Kelso-Heap represented Auckland and did the region & our club proud! For a small club we punched well above our weight both from our athletes perspective and also on the volunteer/officiating side of things. Nick Berry was in the field on Discus, and Fiona Mogridge, Joes mum helped out with track marshalling – great work guys. Thanks also to Steve for various training sessions the team has had – obvious benefits seen there.
Results:
Joe: 2nd 100m , 3rd 200m, 1st 4 x 100m Relay,
Sam: 2nd 400m, 5th 800m, 4th LJ, 2nd 4 x 400m relay
Maddie: finals 100m, & 200m, 3rd 4 x 100m relay
PBs were also achieved by Maddie in her 100m and Sam in his 400 & 800m with a potential new club record for Sam in the 11B 400m. These were impressive as there was a stiff wind on the home straight.
Overall Result: Auckland took out the Trans Tasman Cup!
